Detailed Solution

As it is given that the students of a class are made to stand in rows.
Let us find the number of students in the class.
By using the given information made the linear equations in two variables and find the solution.
Let the number of rows = x
Number of students in 1 row = y
According to the question, If 3 students are extra in a row, there would be 1 row less. i.e.  Total students = (y + 3) (x - 1)
= xy + 3x - y - 3
= xy+ 3x - y = 3 ..........(1)
If 3 students are less in a row, there would be 2 rows more. i.e.  Total students = (y - 3) (x + 2)
= xy - 3x + 2y – 6
 = xy -3x + 2y = 6 ..........(2)
After solving equations (1) and (2), we get
x= 4 and y = 9
So number of students in class = xy = (4)(9) = 36
Therefore 36 number of students are in the class.
Hence, option 1 is correct.
