Detailed Solution

The sum of first n natural numbers is n(n+1) 2 .
As we know that the first n natural numbers are 1,2,3,4,5,..,n.
So, first term: a 1 =1 .
Second terms: a 2 =2 .
Common difference,
d =21 =1
Formula used for sum of first n term of A.P.:
S n = n 2 [2a+(n1)d]
Applying,
= n 2 ×[2×1+(n1)×1] = n 2 ×[2+n1] = n 2 ×(n+1) = n(n+1) 2
Therefore, the sum of the first n natural numbers is n(n+1) 2 .
