Given that the sum of the two integers is 84.
Let the two integers be x   and y.   Therefore we have
  x+y=84   Also given that, one of the integers is 44.
Consider x=44.  
Thus, we have
x+y=84 ⇒44+y=84 ⇒y=84−44 ⇒y=40   Thus, the value of the other integer is found to be 40.
