The superficial layer of the eyeball is the fibrous tunic. It is made up of dense fibrous connective tissue and consists of the anterior cornea and posterior sclera. The choroid, ciliary body and the iris constitute the vascular tunic, the middle layer of the eyeball. The pupil is an aperture at the centre of the iris. The inner layer of the eyeball is the retina which contains the photoreceptors (rods and cones, bipolar cell, ganglion cells and a pigmented epithelium.
