Detailed Solution

The symbol of red phrygian cap used by Le Barbier in his painting stood for liberty.
The National Assembly passed the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen on 26th August 1789. It aimed to protect the individual rights of men like the right to life, freedom of expression, equality before the law etc. It became one of the fundamental documents of the French Revolution. This Declaration was depicted in a painting by an artist called Le Barbier in 1790. The prevalence of illiteracy among the majority of the population made Le Barbier use a lot of political symbols in his painting to communicate the content of the Declaration to maximum people. One such symbol was the red Phrygian cap. The cap was a symbol of a formerly enslaved person. It meant that the time of treating them as enslaved people by the first two estates was over.
