Detailed Solution

The taxes chauth and sardeshmukhi were collected by the Maratha Empire.
When the Maratha Empire ruled the subcontinent, it was notably responsible for collecting the two forms of taxes known as chauth and sardeshmukhi. These two levies, which were established by the Maratha leader Shivaji, were the most significant in the taxing system used by the Marathas during their rule. The chauth was a levy that the Marathas required small kingdoms to pay in order to keep their region free from invasion. Sardeshmukhi was a tax that relates to chauth, and the kingdom was required to pay an additional 10% tax on chauth. This tax was only collected in order to preserve the king's hereditary authority over the tax collection procedures.
