The "Tennis Court Oath" occurred in France on 20th June 1789. The court had been constructed for the Versailles château in 1686, and members of the French Third Estate swore the Tennis Court Oath. "Not to divide and to reconnect wherever required until the Constitution of the kingdom is created" was the choice. In violation of the king's command to disperse, the Third Estate deputies representing the ordinary people and the lower ranks of the clergy congregate at Versailles' Jeu de Paume, an indoor tennis court. It was the French Kingdom's last General Estate.
