Natural fibres are obtained from natural resources and are of two types that are plant fibres and animal fibres.

Silk is an animal fibre and is obtained from silk moths. The process of rearing silk moths to obtain silk is called sericulture

The healthiest silk moths are selected for breeding. They lay about 300-400 eggs. These eggs are stored at a proper temperature and larvae are spread out on a tray to grow. They are fed mulberry leaves. They then built a cocoon that is fine filaments made of protein around them. These cocoons are then put into boiling water to loosen the filaments and these filaments are further processed to obtain silk.
