The three main types of plastids are [[1]], [[2]] & [[3]].

Plastids are found in mostly all plant cells. They bear specific pigments, thus imparting specific colours to the plants. Based on the type of pigments plastids can be classified into:

1. Chloroplasts: Contains chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments
2. Chromoplasts: Contains carotenoid pigments like carotene, xanthophylls and others
3. Leucoplasts: Colourless plastids of varied shapes and sizes with stored nutrients
