Fibres and fibroblasts are compactly packed in the dense connective tissues. Orientation of fibres show an irregular pattern in dense irregular tissues. Dense irregular connective tissue has fibroblasts and many fibres (mostly collagen) that are oriented in different directions. This tissue is present in the deeper region of the dermis of our skin. In dense regular connective tissue (e.g., tendons and ligaments), the orientation of fibres shows a regular pattern. Areolar tissue also has collagen fibres but they are loosely arranged in a semifluid ground substance (loose connective tissue).
