Detailed Solution

Greece was recognised as an independent nation by The Treaty of Constantinople in 1832. Since the fifteenth century, Greece was part of the Ottoman Empire. In 1821, the spread and growth of the idea of liberalism and nationalism in Europe sparked the feeling of the struggle for independence amongst the Greeks. The Greeks living in exile and western countries who sympathised with ancient Greek culture supported the Greek nationalists who fought for the independence of Greece. Finally, after a great struggle, in 1832, the Treaty of Constantinople marked the independence of Greece.
