Detailed Solution

concept - The given formula (Na2CO3) represents Sodium carbonate. Its main use is in the productions of detergents, soaps and paper. It is also used in the manufacture of water glass (sodium silicate), borax, sodium phosphate and many other sodium compounds.
The trivial name of sodium carbonate is soda ash. Soda can be categorised as an inorganic compound. All sodium carbonate hydrates are referred to as soda ash. It may also be noted that all of these forms of sodium carbonate are white solids under standard conditions. Baking soda is soluble in water and is known to form slightly alkaline solutions when dissolved in water.
Soda is typically prepared using the Solvay process. In the Solvay process, ammonia and carbon dioxide are converted into a saturated sodium chloride solution (maintained at a relatively low temperature). This triggers certain chemical reactions that result in the formation of sodium bicarbonate. This compound is only slightly soluble in the presence of sodium ions (due to the common ion effect). Therefore, the sodium bicarbonate is almost completely precipitated. It is then removed through a filtration process and subsequently ignited to produce soda ash.
Hence, the correct answer is 1.
