The Tropic of Cancer 23°30'N divides the country into two parts.
The latitude is an invisible line that forms a ring around the Earth's circumference. Latitudes are measured in degrees and are defined by their location north or south of the Equator, with the Equator at 0° and the north and south poles at 90°. The imaginary line at 23°50 degrees north of the Equator is known as the Tropic of Cancer. The Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are north and south of the Equator, respectively. In India, the Cancer Tropic runs across eight states. (The states involved are Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, and Mizoram.) At 22°, India starts to taper down.
