The two powerful rulers of Magadha were Bimbisara and Ajatshatru.
The Haryanka dynasty began in 544 BC with the birth of Bimbisara. Bimbisara, a Gautama Buddha contemporary, served as the ruler of Magadha as it rose to prominence. The princesses of Kosala, Lichchavi, and Madra were his bridegrooms as part of his expansionist policy to grow his realm. Son of Bimbisara, Ajatshatru. Through the murder of his father, Ajatshatru took the throne. After 16 years of conflict, he adopted a more assertive stance and eventually established total dominance over Kashi and won Vajji through deception.
