The poverty line can be defined as the minimum level of income or consumption necessary to fulfil basic needs. A person is considered poor if they fail to meet the minimum levels. At the same time, determining the poverty line in India, the minimum requirement of food, clothing, fuel, light, income, etc. Based on these details, the poverty line in India was fixed at Rs. 816 for rural areas and Rs. 1000 for urban areas. According to WHO, the minimum calorie requirement for India is 2400 calories per person in rural areas and 2100 calories per person in urban areas.
