Detailed Solution

The Upper House of the Indian Parliament is known as the Rajya Sabha. It is also known as the Council of States. It consists of 250 members, 230 of whom are chosen by state legislatures through an indirect process using a single transferable vote. The President may appoint the remaining 12 members in honour of their contributions to the humanities, sciences, literature, and social services. The Vice President of India presides over Rajya Sabha proceedings as its ex-officio Director. The Deputy Chairman is chosen by a vote of the house members.
