Concept- The skin has three layers that are dermis, epidermis, and hypodermis. Out of the three, the epidermis is the thin and the outermost layer of the skin.
The epidermis is futher divided into 7 different layers. The outermost layer of epidermis is ‘stratum corneum’. It consists of dead cells. It acts as a major barrier to chemical transfer through the skin. Melanin is found in the inner layer of the skin.  Dermis also prevent dehydration of the skin.
Hypodermis is in between epidermis and dermis. Thickest and innermost layer of the skin is the dermis, elastin and collagen deposit make the dermis thick.
