Detailed Solution

A-horizon, or topsoil, is the uppermost layer of the soil.
The vertical portion of the soil, known as the soil profile, reveals the various soil layers. The topsoil is the soil's topmost layer. Due to its abundance of humus and minerals, the highest horizon often has a dark colour. Humus enriches the soil with nutrients and makes it fertile for growing plants. Usually soft and porous, this layer has a higher water retention capacity.
