Detailed Solution

The use of the English language for official purposes was to stop in 1965.
After Independence, the constitution identified Hindi as the official language and also continued with English as the language for official purposes until 1965. The use of English for official purposes was to stop in 1965. But the southern states or non-hindi speaking states protested against this policy. They demanded the continuation of English as an official language as only 40% of the population spoke Hindi. The government agreed to the demand and continued with Hindi and English both as the Official Languages in India. Many states also have their own official language.
