Given quadratic equation

$3 x^{2} - 7 x - 2 = 0$ ..........(i)

On comparing eq (i) with $a x^{2} + b x + c = 0$ we get

$a = 3, b = - 7, c = - 2$

Discriminant of quadratic equation

$D = b^{2} - 4 a c$

Putting the value of a, b, c

$\begin{aligned} D = (- 7)^{2} - 4 \times 3 \times (- 2) \\ D = 49 + 24 \\ D = 73 \end{aligned}$

Hence the value of discriminant is 73.
