Given the quadratic equation: $3{\mathrm{x}}^2-7\mathrm{x}-2=0$..........(i) 

On comparing eq (i) with ${\mathrm{ax}}^2+\mathrm{bx}+\mathrm{c}=0$ we get 

$\mathrm{a}=3,\mathrm{b}=-7,\mathrm{c}=-2$ 

Discriminant of the quadratic equation: $\mathrm{D}={\mathrm{b}}^2-4\mathrm{ac}$ 

By putting the value of a, b, c, we get:

$\begin{array}{r}\mathrm{D}=(-7{)}^2-4\times 3\times (-2)\\ \mathrm{D}=49+24\\ \mathrm{D}=73\end{array}$ 

Hence the value of the discriminant is 73.
