Detailed Solution

The Vernacular press act was passed in 1878.
The British government was given the authority to seize the printing presses and other assets of newspapers under the Vernacular Press Act if the journals published anything deemed offensive or against them. In 1878, it was approved. Its goal was to silence the nationalism emerging in India in opposition to colonial rule. This law forbids the publication of any letter or article critical of the immoral reign of the British empire in India. Direct sanctions against newspapers that published anything critical of British control were initiated. Indians objected to this action. In Bengal, the opposition to this act was stronger.
