The decision to separate the eastern parts of Bengal from the rest of Bengal was known as the Partition of Bengal. The Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, announced the partition on July 20, 1905, and it went into effect on October 16, 1905. People all over India were enraged by the partition of Bengal.
