The Vienna Congress was convened in 1815 to restore the conservative regime in Europe.
After the defeat of Napoleon, the spirit of conservatism advocating traditional institutions like monarchy prevailed in Europe. So the Vienna Congress was assembled to reconstitute the European political order based on conservatism. Thus the delegation drafted the Vienna Treaty of 1815 to reverse changes in Europe during the Napoleonic Wars. Several states were established on the French border to prevent the future expansion of France. The Kingdom of the Netherlands, including Belgium, was established in the north, and Genoa was annexed to Piedmont in the south. Prussia gained significant new territory at the western border, and Austria gained control of Northern Italy.
