Detailed Solution

The voices of men, women and children are different due to the variation in vocal cords, such as in men, about 20 mm long; vocal cords in women are about 5 mm shorter than in men, and children have very short vocal cords.
The frequency of the voice depends upon the length of the vocal cord. The shorter the vocal cord, the more frequency; hence, the voice shrill. Due to the difference in the length of vocal cords, the sounds produced by the three are different. Females have shorter vocal cords – typically between 12.5 mm and 17.5 mm long. Females have small vocal tracts and longer and thinner vocal cords; this gives their voices a naturally higher frequency. In addition to being longer, the male vocal folds are also thicker, primarily because the muscle within the vocal folds (i.e., thyroarytenoid muscle) is thickened by testosterone during puberty.
