Article 231 of the Treaty of Versailles is known as the War Guilt Clause. It forced Germany to accept that they had initiated the First World War. The Treaty of Versailles was a peace document signed between Germany and the Allied Powers on 28th June 1919. According to the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was forced to pay the compensation amount of six billion pounds. As stated in this clause, Germany had to give away the territories they had occupied, a reduction in military forces, and a compensatory amount to be given to the Allied Powers.
