The war on the firangis was declared by the sepoys at Meerut in 1857 in India. Meerut became the starting point of the Revolt of 1857. In Meerut, the sepoys turned against the British officials regarding using greased cartridges. The cartridges were greased with pig and cow fat and had to be bitten before use. This threatened the religious consciousness among the soldiers. Many soldiers were dismissed, and some were imprisoned for an act of refusal to perform the drill. The other soldiers at Meerut joined hands to release the imprisoned ones. They attacked British property and officials. Moreover, they also gathered arms and ammunition and led a march to Delhi. The soldiers declared war on firangis and were determined to end colonial rule.
