The Bhakra Nangal project's water is used mainly for Hydro Power and irrigation. Bhakra Nangal Dam is a Gravity dam built on the Sutlej river on the Border of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. It was completed in 1963, and after completion, it was dedicated to Jawahar Lal Nehru. It is the third-largest dam in India, with a height of 207.26 metres and covering about 163.4 k.m. Gobind Sagar reservoir is part of this dam, and it can hold up to 9.34 billion cubic metres of water, this reservoir is 88 k.m long and 8 k.m wide, and it was named after Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th guru of the Sikh community. The Bhakra Nangal Dam provides irrigation facilities to the states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh; it is also useful for producing Hydel Power.
