The western and higher part of the city in Harappan Civilisation was known as the citadel. Most Indus Valley Civilization cities were divided into an Upper Part and a Lower Part. The only city that was divided into three halves was called Dholavira. The Citadel got its name because one of these two parts was always made smaller, and the other was constructed to rise a little above the ground. The Lower Town, which was located immediately below the Citadel and was made up of residential buildings, was where the average person lived.
