Detailed Solution

The western coast and Northeastern India receive over 400 cm of rainfall.
The Indian subcontinent receives uneven rainfall, with some regions receiving very high rainfall and some having little rainfall. The highest rainfall received in India is about 1178 cm, which shows the variability in its distribution. The Western Ghats first receives the Arabian Sea branch of the southwest monsoons, which causes tremendous rainfall of over 400 cm in the area. The Bay of Bengal branch of the southwest monsoons is not blocked by the uneven Eastern Ghats and goes straight to the northeastern hills, where it gets trapped in the Assam valley and causes heavy rainfall. The wettest place on Earth, Mawsynram in Meghalaya, lies in this valley formed by the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia hills.
