Detailed Solution

The Western Ghats, which span from North to South near the Western Coast, create the main water divide in Peninsular India. Western Ghats play an important role in creating the main water divide in peninsular India. Due to this water divide, almost all major peninsular rivers like the Godavari, Mahanadi, Krishna, and Kaveri flow eastwards and drain into the Bay of Bengal. Only Narmada and Tapi are the long rivers flowing westwards and draining into the Arabian Sea.
