Detailed Solution

The wettest place on Earth is Mawsynram.  The Bay of Bengal branch of the southwest monsoons goes straight to the northeast hills as they do not encounter any other obstacles on their way. The moisture-laden winds get trapped in the V-shaped valley formed by the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia hills and cause tremendous rainfall. The winds getting trapped in the valley are not allowed to escape, and its entire moisture content gets depleted in the Assam hills. Mawsynram lies in this valley and receives the highest rainfall of about 1187 cm annually.
