Detailed Solution

The Widow Remarriage Act was passed in 1856.
The Hindu Widows' Remarriage Act 1856, also known as Act XV, 1856, was passed on July 26, 1856, and it made widow remarriage legal throughout all of India, which the East India Company ruled. Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, one of the most well-known reformers, suggested that widows could remarry based on ancient literature. British officials took up his proposal, and this law was passed. Vidyasagar was criticised by those who disapproved of widows being remarried, and they even boycotted him.
