Detailed Solution

The word India comes from the Indus river.
The Indus, known in Sanskrit as Sindhu, is where the word India originated. The Indus River was known as the Hindus or the Indos by the Iranians and the Greeks who travelled to India through the northwest around 2500 years ago; the region east of the river was known as India. A group of people who lived in the northwest and were mentioned in the Rigveda, the oldest work in Sanskrit (dating from about 3500 years ago), were referred to as the Bharata. Later, it was applied to the nation.
