The work and situation of a farmer with 1 hectare of land are miserable.
They work on small plots that produce small produce. The produce is so small that they can only survive on that, and nothing is left as a surplus to sell and earn some money. They have to borrow money from the large farmers to sow the crops for the next season. Even after all their efforts ploughing and sowing seeds, the output depends upon the availability or non-availability of water for irrigation. If irrigation facilities are not available, then they rely on rainfall, which is uncertain and erratic. Thus, their production is not sufficient to make a living on it.
