An electric bell consists of an electromagnet, switch, iron strip, contact screw, hammer and a gong.

  • When an electric current is passed through the circuit, the wounded iron coil acts as an electromagnet due to the current flowing through it. It attracts the iron strip.
  •  In the process, the hammer at the end of the strip strikes the gong of the bell to produce a sound.

Therefore, we can say that the working of an electric bell is based on the magnetic effect of electric current.
