1)      The World Food Summit was held on 13-17 November 1996 at the Food Agriculture Organisation(FAO) in Rome.
2)      The dream of the summit was to renew global commitment at the highest political level to eliminate hunger and malnutrition and to achieve sustainable food for all people.
3)      The World Food Summit proclaimed that 'Food security at the individual, household, regional, national and global levels exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economical access to sufficient safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and the food preferences for an active and healthy life.'
4)      The declaration further recognizes that 'Poverty eradication is essential to improve access to food.
