This is Hunsdicker reaction. In this reaction intermediate formed is alkyl free radical. Alkyl free radical and bromine free radical under goes head on collisions to form alkyl bromide with one carbon less. As branching on free radical increases head on collisions decreases between ${\mathrm{R}}^{°}$ and ${\mathrm{Br}}^{°}$. With 3⁰ free radical elimination reaction also occurs.
