Question Image

Let mass m be placed at point A which is at a distance x from the smaller sphere such that the net

force = 0

Gravitational force of 1st sphere

= G.F of 2nd sphere

GMmx2=4GMm(12Rx)2

14=x2(12Rx)2

(12)2=(x12Rx)2

12=x12Rx

12Rx=2x

12R=2x+x

12R=3x

x= 412R3

x=4R
Therefore the distance of mass m from the smaller sphere is 4R.
