There was a revolution of liberals in 1848 in Europe. There was an urge to end the interference of the state in the economic life of people in the 19th century by the liberals. They protested against the restrictions that the state had imposed and fought for the freedom of markets. Prussia took the initiative and formed a customs union which was established in 1834 and most of the German states actively participated in it. The union reduced the number of currencies and abolished the tariff barriers. The main aim of liberals was equality of all people before the law and to establish freedom. They believed that people should get a say in the making of the government.
