* During interphase, great metabolic activities occur but division of chromosomes or cytoplasm does not occur.

* Major changes during interphase is replication of DNA, synthesis of histones, ATP, RNA and proteins.
G₁Phase : Cell is metabolically active and continuously grows.
S phase : DNA synthesis and its replication occurs. Centrioles duplication occurs in animal cell.
G₂phase : Proteins are synthesized and cell growth continues.
* Hence interphase is not resting phase.
