Three famous personalities in this picture are Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Maulana Azad. Abul Kalam Azad, popularly known as Maulana Azad, was an Indian independence activist and one of the senior leaders of the Indian National Congress. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Gandhi's non-violent Civil Disobedience Movement. He organised the Non-Cooperation Movement following the 1919 Rowlatt Acts. He also supported the cause of Hindu-Muslim unity. He served as the president of Congress and, after independence, became the First Minister of Education.
