Thrombocytes are cell fragments rather than true cells. They are round or oval disc like bodies. They lack nuclei and contain few cell orgenelles and secretory granules in them.  These cell fragments  release a variety of substances, which are involved in clotting of blood. They are produced from special cells in the bone marrow called megakaryocytes.
