Detailed Solution

Tipu Sultan stopped trade with the East India Company throughout his kingdom in 1785. Tipu Sultan stopped the trade of sandalwood, pepper, and cardamom throughout his kingdom's ports in 1785, and local merchants were barred from trading with the Company. Mysore was in charge of the lucrative Malabar coast trade, where the Company bought pepper and cardamom. In India, Tipu had a close relationship with the French and used their assistance to modernise his army. The British did not like that and considered Tipu an ambitious, arrogant, and dangerous ruler who had to be restrained and crushed.
