TISCO expanded its steel production during the First World War.
It refers to Tata Iron and Steel Company. It was the first iron and steel company in India. It began the production of steel in 1912. TISCO initially faced massive competition from British industries. However, they highly benefited from the outbreak of the First World War. The British iron and steel plants became busy meeting the demands of the war, and their import to India declined gradually. Now, the demand for iron and steel in India was met by TISCO. It started supplying iron and steel to Indian railways. By the war's end, the government bought 90% of its steel requirement from TISCO.
