The Gram Sabha is a meeting of all adults living within a village. Each village has a gram sabha held at regular intervals. The adults residing in the village gather for a gram sabha. Any resident of the village of 18 years of age or above is a member of the gram sabha. This constitutes the voting members of the village. The Gram Sabha is a site where the people are directly involved in governance matters. The policies and programmes of the gram panchayat need to be approved by the gram sabha. To contest in the panchayat elections, a person should be a minimum of 21 years of age. However, a minimum of 25 years of age is required to compete in state elections and Lok Sabha elections.
