Detailed Solution

To launch a civil disobedience movement, Gandhi chose salt to support. In 1930, Gandhiji made 11 demands to the viceroy Irwin and gave him a deadline to accept these demands. He mentioned that Irwin did not make these demands. Then Gandhi launched the Civil disobedience movement. Gandhiji started the Dandi march on 12 March 1930 to break the salt law. Gandhiji thought that if a movement launched on the national level to abolish the salt law, it could unite the nation because salt was something essential consumed by the rich and poor alike. Moreover, the salt tax revealed the oppressive face of British rule.
