Addition of CCl4, filtration, sublimation : these methods should be followed respectively to separate a mixture containing iodine, ammonium chloride and sand.
Iodine dissolves in CCl4. Hence addition of CCl4 leads to the separation of iodine after filtration of the whole solution. Ammonium chloride and sand remain unchanged. Ammonium chloride sublimes and thus can be separated from sand by the process of sublimation. This is the easiest process of separation.
