Peter Norman had worn a human rights badge on his trousers during the ceremony to expose his assistance to two Americans. Norman no longer performed within the Australian team at the next Olympics. Norman was not included in the Australian team at the next Olympics. But their actions succeeded in gaining the international attention of the Civil Rights Movement in the US. Recently, San Jose (pronounced ‘Saan Hoze’) State University, its former alumni, honoured them and placed their statue on the University campus. When Norman died in 2006, Smith and Carlos were the mourners at his funeral.
