Humans are primates and are classified along with all other apes in a primate sub-group known as the hominoids (Superfamily Hominoidea).

One of the two families still extant in biology that makes up the Hominoidea superfamily of apes, the other being the Hylobatidae (gibbons). 

The great apes, including humans and orangutans (genus Pongo), gorillas (genus Gorilla), chimpanzees, and bonobos (genus Pan), are all members of the family Hominidae.
